Pinus caribaea, known as tropical pine is found in abundance in the region. It fulfills the high demand for quality pulp wood.
History of AmarkantakAmarkantak is an amalgamation of 2 Sanskrit words- “Amara” + “Kantaka”. Amara means immortal whereas Kantaka means obstruction. Kalidas mentioned the town as “Amrakuta” in his creations which became “Amarkantak” after sometime. The ancient temples of Kalachuri period built by Maharaja Karnadeva (1041–1073 AD) highlights the historical importance of the region.
